Regional and National Organizations

Affiliation with the National Collegiate Honors Council (NCHC) and the Great Plains Honors Council (GPHC)

The Honors College staff has an extensive history of involvement with regional and national organizations committed to honors education. Dr. Keith Garbutt, Honors College Dean, has written and presented on issues such as the impact of merit aid on socioeconomic diversity, support for first-generation students, and student leadership. His most recent publication is The Other Culture: Science and Mathematics Education in Honors in 2012, an NCHC monograph edited with Ellen B. Buckner. Dr. Garbutt also serves as Chair of the NCHC Science and Mathematics Committee.

Involvement in regional and national organizations committed to honors education continues to be an important component of Honors College progress, and staff members have engaged in the activities of both the NCHC and GPHC (including hosting the GPHC Regional Conference in 2018).
