Honors College students experience a sense of community through their frequent interactions with their peers. They enjoy the academic support of the honors classroom and the connections they make by integrating their academic, social, and leadership activities.
Honors College events are hosted throughout the academic year. Students regularly engage in game nights, movie nights, tea with our Honors Dean and Pet Therapy pups Darwin and Huxley, dances (don't worry, they will teach you all the line dances), philantrophy events, and more. We also have the Honors College Student Association as well as organizations focused on K-12 outreach (see menu at left).
There are also special, annual events such as the beloved Viking Feast, the State Science Fair competition which honors students volunteer to help organize, participating in the Homecoming festivities, and Stout Spring Preview (where current Stout residents, or "Stouties", invite current high school seniors to come spend the weekend to see what it's really like to be an OSU Honors student).
Honors is successfully navigating the current limitations on in-person activities by ramping up our Out and About with Honors events. These events invite a small number of students to participate in outdoor activity such walking/running around Boomer lake or taking a relaxing stroll through the OSU Botanic Garden.
We have also been connecting with students virtually by hosting a family-feud style trivia, Jackbox game nights, town hall meetings, and Book at Bedtime (our wonderful Dean and his wife, Christine, read science fiction on Tuesday and Thursday nights).
We have also introduced our first ever Honors Symposium Series. The symposium series aims to ensure honors students are aware of and utilizing the many, many resources OSU has to offer. Throughout the series we will be partnering with numerous offices/organizations such as LASSO (tutoring services), Student Government Association, Counseling Services, Undergraduate Research, Study Abroad, and more.
If you are an honors student and you would like to stay up-to-date on the latest additions to Honors College programs, be sure to check your OSU email often, and get connected with us on social media (you can click on the social media icons via the menu at left).
Current honors students are also welcome to join our Slack workspace. Slack is a communication tool Honors uses to share important information and reminders, highlight events and opportunities, and quickly respond to student questions or concerns. Students can also create their own channels based on common interests as well as crowdsource for answers. Email your honors advisor if you would like to receive an invitation to join.
