Three Honors Students Secure Prestigious Goldwater Scholarship

Three Oklahoma State University Honors College students have been awarded the 2021 Barry M. Goldwater Scholarship, one of the most prestigious national honors recognizing outstanding undergraduates who seek research careers in the natural sciences, mathematics and engineering.

 

Ashley Gin
Institution Name: Oklahoma State University-Main Campus
Field of Study: Life Sciences
Career Goal: Ph.D. in immunology and infectious disease and Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (D.V.M.). Conduct research on zoonotic diseases at a national laboratory to bridge and advance animal and human medicine.

Collin Thornton
Institution Name: Oklahoma State University-Main Campus
Field of Study: Engineering
Career Goal: Ph.D. in Controls Engineering. Conduct research in the automation and control of unmanned vehicles in government or industry research labs.

Alexis Vance

Gin, Thornton, and Vance are OSU's 27th, 28th, and 29th Goldwater Scholars. They were selected from a pool of more than 5000 applicants from 438 institutions across the country. The one-and two-year Goldwater Scholarships are valued at up to $7,500 per year.

 

The Goldwater Scholarship and Excellence in Education Foundation was established by Congress in 1986 to serve as a living memorial to honor the lifetime work of Sen. Barry Goldwater. Today, Goldwater alumni can be found conducting research that is helping defend the nation, find cures for catastrophic diseases and teaching future generations of scientists, mathematicians and engineers.
